The landscaped 'garden' cemeteries were designed for the dead and the living. Fortunes were spent on building spectacular memorials to deceased loved ones. ...

    My grandad was born & raised in St Ann's Square, , Blackrock,,he used to always say " you cant beat an aul rocker ", 😂 he was so proud of where he grew up. My great grandmother Maryann Newman was the district nurse of the area, booterstown , monkstown , ballsbridge & surrounding area's. My great grandfather had something to do with the church, i seen a photo of him & other men they wore the priest black gown & a all white embroidery smock type shorter dress over the black one & A little hat like a mini hat the pope or bishops wear ,, but i don't know why he was in the group or what it was about,, id love to find out. Both my great grandparents, Opened a shop it was the 1st house on the right hand side of the entrance to St Ann's ,, well they were too caring,,kind ,good descent people they went bankrupt, they hardly made any money, they gave everyone Tick , pay you on pay day , pay you next week, etc., so they lost their family business they had 9 children themselves. Both sets of my great grandparent's are from wicklow , 3 from glendalough O'Toole's and Newman and my other Ggm , came from another part of wicklow. The time's when Men were strong , took no shit ,, Had So much respect for other's & eachother , they stood up for their families, their country and didn't let anyone shut them up , they had strong moral's & belief in our Lord God Jesus Christ. The women back then were superwoman, they would have a homebirth ,no meds , nothing,, but she has 5 toddler's running around & probably 5 older children,, no matter what those women would be out working, hours after giving birth ,scrubbing some rich persons front concrete steps & all the floor's, then go home take care of her children, scrubbing her house, getting hubby's dinner ready to hand it to him the minute he walks in the door , and whoever was sitting in his chair were told "up". But the moral, values,,, life skills,, compassion,, loyalty, etc etc , they were made of something special,, they put us all in this day & age to shame. Thanks to Blackrock, it made My Super Hero Granddad, into the man i loved and adored in life , , and I love & Adore him in death . I enjoyed this video Thank you 😍🕊 💚🕯🧡

    I finally went to the cemetery in December 2023 after it hadn't worked out the year before due to time constraints. I was overwhelmed by the size, the atmosphere and the many graves and monuments - and the stories behind them. I spent a long time at the cemetery, but didn't see everything by far. The next time I'm in Dublin, the cemetery will be on my list again.

    If you purchase a grave and are buried, I think it is wrong for strangers to be buried in your grave after 70 years without the consent of the family. Also turning the stone around so the original owners are facing backwards is disrespectful.

      The problem is that we don’t have enough space to bury everyone. In France they take you out , put the bones in a box and put the box with your name in an ossuary! Or if more family members are going to use the same grave they will put the bones at the bottom of it and put the new casket on top!

    • @Sebastian-ip2wc
      @Sebastian-ip2wc 8 дней назад

      @@frenchustube We had Ossuary’s in the United Kingdom during the Medieval period. If you purchase a plot, that is your plot and if the council wants to remove the bones, then they should have to have permission from relatives. Once the land is used up the councils should have to find alternative ways to dispose of bodies, but they should not disturb those already buried. It is desecrating a grave. Four adults is enough people going into my plot

    Have been so many times as almost all of my family are laid to rest there. My mum and her surviving siblings, often go in the spring to look at the wonderful rhododendrons etc.. they take a small picnic and after paying their respects, sit on the benches to eat their lunch. Mum says it’s not morbid, she sees it as sitting with her family and past loved ones. There’s a book of remembrance and most are in it. So on birthdays they go as the page will be open on the name of a loved one, with a short poem. It’s not a cheap cemetery to choose for your final resting place but east London has always been our home.

    In London's heart, a haven lies, Where souls in silence softly sigh, Amongst the trees and blooms so fair, The City of London's garden rare. Inscribed in stone, a thousand tales, Whispered by the gentle gales, Of lives once lived, now laid to rest, In this sanctuary, divinely blessed. Each monument a work of art, Crafted by hands, aching heart, Echoes of Victorian grace, In this tranquil, hallowed space. Majestic arches, towering spires, Evoke the souls' eternal desires, A symphony of stone and bloom, In this city's quiet tomb. Here, history's whispers softly speak, Of heroes bold and lovers meek, Of artists, poets, thinkers wise, Beneath London's ever-watchful skies. Amidst the shadows, paths wind deep, Through verdant aisles, where memories sleep, And as we wander, hearts entwine, With the spirits of this sacred shrine. The City of London's lovely charm, A testament to lives once warm, In this Victorian garden fair, May peace and solace always share.
